Training.
Happy athletes at all levels.
At Windswept, we believe in a methodical, patient approach to training, that prioritizes fairness to the horse. Whether you’re taking your first lessons or preparing for your first Grand Prix, we believe that good dressage training and a thoughtful, well-rounded program can help you reach your goals.
We offer “training board” only at Windswept, meaning all horses are in at least a minimum of one lesson or training ride per week with one of our two trainers, Greta Vowell and Julie Barringer-Richers. Of course, arrangements are made for layups and rehabilitation as needed, in consultation with owners and veterinarians. While our clients’ individual goals vary, and every horse and rider pair is different, every horse is developed with an eye to the Training Scale, and rider instruction emphasizes soft, tactful aids and correct basics. In good weather, we encourage work outside the arena, and although neither are required, we encourage regular participation in shows and clinics. Throughout the year, a regular clinic schedule in-house supplements the day-to-day training program, and we attend a variety of local, regional, and national shows. Coaching at shows and assistance with sporthorse sales and acquisitions is also available. Training is provided through Dressage Pacifico LLC (Greta) and Wild Rose Farm LLC (Julie), independent businesses.

In addition to training and lessons, Greta offers assistance with sporthorse sales and acquisitions for her clients. A la carte lesson packages, as well as half and full training packages, are offered.
Julie Barringer-Richers
Julie Barringer-Richers is a legendary presence in the Colorado dressage community, who specializes in teaching children and adult beginners through Third Level, and loves giving riders the foundation they need in good dressage seat equitation to succeed as they go up the levels. Julie has coached countless students to USDF Bronze Medals, Regional and Rocky Mountain Dressage Society championships, and on to long and productive years at the FEI levels. In addition to teaching students on their own horses, she offers lessons on a select group of schoolmasters, to help introduce the sport to those not ready to make the leap to leasing or owning. Julie also offers both in-person and virtual freestyle creation services at all levels, from Training to Grand Prix.
